Uhh, somebody’s going to tap the brakes on at some point, right? Last year’s WVU team struggled to beat up on the Big East, losing two games in-conference. This year, we’re in a better league against better competition and the only game in which we really shined was a victory over an utterly overrated team from the utterly pathetic ACC conference.

We will have had an incredible season if we go 10-2 but the way fans seems to be preparing for the season, we’ve already got 12-0 wrapped up and it’s now just a matter of figuring out who we’ll be playing in the bowl game.

Wouldn’t it make more sense to approach the regular season with a sense of impending disaster, given the fact that Mountaineer teams have self-combusted for 18 of the last 20 years? The Mounties went undefeated in 1993 and lost to Virginia Tech in 2005, an entirely reasonable outcome given that team’s inexperience. Every other season has seen high hopes dashed upon the rocks. For instance, WVU lost to Syracuse and Louisville last season. Maybe that’s been forgotten in the glow of the Orange Bowl but both losses were bad losses.

I guess I’m just saying that maybe we shouldn’t start engraving the Big 12 Championship trophy quite yet.
