Nelson France and Citizenship
Nelson France’s campaign has been attempting to utilize the power of various social media to reach out to voters. He has a website. He has a Facebook page. He has a Twitter feed. Presumably, these things are tools not only for his own self-aggrandizement - there isn’t a politician running who doesn’t have a self promotion on the brain when they implement these sorts of things -...

Nelson France and Sunnyside Up Will Make You Want...
Nelson France wanted us all to see this, an article from the local (and awful) Dominion Post. It’s an interview with him and other City Council candidates (Ron Bane, Jennifer Selin, and John Gaddis). The article covers various topics of local interest, including our never ending conversation about the urban deer population, Morgantown’s decision to hire outsiders as the new police...

Moments in Mountaineer Tweeting (#7)
John Flowers brings the truth. Or, perhaps more accurately, his mother’s truth:
“I don’t talk shit off the court…”let ya game speak 4 it’s self”—- my mama”
His mama, of course, was Pam Kelly-Flowers, a Hall-of-Famer.
Long live John Flowers.
(We will agree, as die hard fans of both Flowers and punctuation, to ignore the typo.)

The Utter Gutlessness of Nelson France
Drove nine hard hours today, leaving Hilton Head Island at 3:30am and arriving back in Morgantown at 12:30pm. That’s some driving. It didn’t take me but another 10 hours to discover that in my absence from town, Nelson France’s campaign for city council has gotten no more courageous than it was when I left.
To wit: if you are a voter who asks him a tough question that he has...
WVU vs Clemson Preview
And now for a preview of today’s first second round game for the Mountaineers
At noon today, 60 teams in the NCAA tournament will have known who their opening round opponent is for the past 88+ hours and in that time have been busy gameplanning and strategizing for that opponent, against whom they tip off sometime in the next 33 hours. WVU has known who their opponent is for only about 36...

NCAA Draft Review: How did I do?
For the third year in a row, the Tuesday following Selection Sunday, I met with a group of friends at a Mexican dive in Oak Ridge, TN. In front of each of us were chips, salsa, 36 oz mugs of icy cold beer, and stacks of papers. This gathering represented our third annual NCAA tournament draft among friends and it has made the Tuesday before the NCAA tournament starts, one of my most favorite days...

Being an Adult and Other News and Notes
-In light of the Nelson France’s cowardice when it comes to questions he can’t easily answer, I thought I ought to note that you can ask me anything, either here at this website or on Twitter at WVMorgantown. Although my answers might not satisfy you, it wouldn’t dawn on me to block you from making the attempt.
I should also make clear that when I write that Nelson France...

Nelson France Does Not Appreciate Your Questions
It is a small, petty thing you see above. (You can also check it out here.)
Nelson France established, as part of his campaign for Morgantown’s City Council, a Twitter feed. On it, you can find updates about his campaign, like his constant meetings with fraternities and sororities, and oddly inappropriate quotes from Neil Young.
The reason you use Twitter is to connect with people, and...

Remarkably Simple Questions for Nelson France...
One of the interesting things about Nelson France’s campaign, and my visceral response to its absurdity, is that it has put me in contact with (some) local residents who are equally concerned about his campaign for office. Of course, there are numerous reasons to be worried: he’d be a hack, he’d be a puppet, he’d murder Wiles Hill’s long term viability by refusing to...
Weather's A Coming
Be warned. Weather is imminent.
(Personally, I’ll be impressed once there’s snow on the ground. It’s melting on contact as of this late night publication.)

Losing to Marquette
-God dammit.
-Was there a single point during that game that you felt confident? Yeah, me neither.
-Cam Throughman’s attempt at a drive and then a runner was…uhh…underwhelming shall we say.
-Speaking of which, remember that time that Dalton Pepper faked a three, drove the baseline, and laid it in easily? Yeah, I do to. What I don’t remember is him having ever done...

Can Nelson France Answer Tell Us More?
One of the irritating things about Nelson France’s candidacy for office is how he presents his decision to run. He repeatedly describes himself as the put upon candidate, the man who hoisted responded to the call for public office despite his own misgivings about the pursuit. I’ll give you some examples.
Here he is on Her Campus:
“The decision came from speaking with friends,...
John Flowers gets jobbed by Big East coaches
(For appropriately titled musical accompaniment for this post, click here to listen to Talking Heads’ “Nothing But Flowers”)
So today the Big East announced today hat Syracuse forward Rick Jackson was named Defensive Player of the Year. Proving once again, that anything voted on by coaches is likely stupid and political. Here’s why John Flowers (much loved on this blog by the way) got...

Nelson France Gets An Endorsement From WVUToday
I think we need to substantively deal with this bit of Nelson France fluffery that emerged last Friday. It was printed by WVUToday, the university’s “news” service, a term that I use incredibly loosely given what we’re about to discuss.
The article is less news than it is a press release. It presents Nelson France’s candidacy in an entirely positive light. It asks...

That's How You Do It Son (WVU Beats Louisville)
In case you’re wondering, today’s 72-70 win over Louisville was drawn up precisely the way both Scott and I expected it: crushing the offensive boards, barely being able to score, getting a last second shot from Cam Thoroughman, fouling out two of the four seniors playing their last game (Joe Mazzulla and Thoroughman), counting on Casey Mitchell to make two late 3s, scheming a...

Our Seniors Are Leaving
Tomorrow is our final home game, barring a weirdness in which the team ends up in the NIT. That seems impossible though which means we’re saying our goodbyes to Jonnie West, Joe Mazzulla, Cam Thoroughman, John Flowers…and Casey Mitchell. (For the sake of conversation, we’re not going to spend much time discussing Mitchell, because he has only been here for a little less than two...
Nelson France's Newest Campaign Commercial
Nelson France is taking his campaign seriously, spending money on a slick television commercial. I’ve linked to it. Get to know the man better.

This Guy Is Running For City Council
Nelson France, a guy I’d describe as not a good City Council candidate, recently tweeted this:
Election is 8 weeks away. “Old man look at my life, I’m a lot like you were. Old man look at my life, I’m a lot like you were.” #neilyoung
I’ve said before - because I deeply, truly believe it - that France is a terrible candidate for office, mostly because he so...

Moments In (Ex) Mountaineer Tweeting (#6)
Dan Jennings isn’t a Mountaineer currently - hopefully he comes back and is…redempted? That’s not a word. But it should be. Anyway, he tweeted this:
In my rocks class
I genuinely enjoy the ongoing updates from players about their classes, not only because they don’t seem to like them very much, but because they sound so much like I did at the same age. Furthermore, I like...
