WVU vs. Rutgers - Running Diary (player +/-...
It’s 2:32 on Sunday. I know nothing about today’s game, a DVR recording of today’s game, and a full bottle of Magic Hat #9. Let’s go Mountaineers.
Gee, wonder who Bob Wenzel will be pulling for today.
17:55 in 1st half Zero offense. Through three possessions: 1 turnover, 2 missed shots—1 an awkward jumpshot by JFlow, and an NBA three from Truck with under 5 on the shot clock.

Fighting The Good Fight
You have to respect the neighborhoods who fight back against our city’s horrid management. These people, for example, are tasked with doing what’s in the city’s best interests and yet their plans routinely come down to demolishing entire neighborhoods if it will benefit a developer somewhere. People who own homes don’t matter as much to city officials as do the developers...

Our Corrupt Local School Administration
The mystery blogger at NewWoodburnCommunitySchool continues to ask the most pertinent questions of our local school board, in this case incisively attacking our incompetent and utterly corrupt school board. Unfortunately for the author, our school board has long been a bastion of mostly corrupt people whose utter disloyalty to most of Monongalia County has been plainly on display. Or, to put that...

Destroying Notre Dame
-First of all, you can thank me immediately for yesterday’s carefully designed reverse jinx. You’re welcome.
-Second of all: with due respect to a religious institution, how goddamned sweet was today’s victory?
Things I Liked
-The highlight for me was, oddly, Deniz Kilicli blocking a driving layup by Ben Hansbrough and then staring him down immediately afterward. That is...

Playing Notre Dame
I hate Notre Dame. There isn’t a school on this planet whom I more uniformly loathe, even Boston College. As a WVU fan, I’m supposed to be furious about Pitt or Marshall, but I can’t fake that funk. It just isn’t in me. They’re schools nearby. I see no reason to hate a team just because they’re nearby. But Notre Dame? If they never won another game in any sport...

Great Moments in Mountaineer Tweeting (#6)
Happy Valentine’s Day from Deniz Kilicli:
“Happy valetines day bitch! u wanna go out and eat or some shit” #romantictweet
That’s just fantastic.

Enduring DePaul
Today, the Mountaineers face the DuPaul Blue Demons, easily the worst program in the Big East. The assumption here is that the ailing Mountaineers - a team running on fumes, decimated by the cold hard reality of their own roster’s limitations - will rebound against the DePaul, righting themselves and the rest of the season.
That’s a solid assumption. I like everything about it. But...
Local Outrage
You’d be hard-pressed to find two local sites doing specific issue outrage than these:
-New Woodburn Community School, a website dedicated to the absurdity that is the now-incoming Eastwood Elementary. Local political officials act without rebuke, aided by the local media’s steadfast refusal to report on their wrong doing. Nancy Walker should be amongst the many who lose their jobs...

Nelson France, Running For City Council, Has No...
Official word today that Nelson France genuinely has the audacity to run for City Council.
France first came to the attention of Wiles Hill residents when his name was floated as a possible representative on the Morgantown Planning Commission. His name was proposed by Chris Fletcher, Morgantown’s Planner, a man who happily ruins entire neighborhoods if it means his developer friends will...

Moments in Mountaineer Tweeting (#5)
John Flowers today wished the women’s basketball team luck, but qualified it with a nod to UConn’s Maya Moore, about whom he tweeted the following:
I got a crush on Maya Moore…jus cuz she can hoop lol I’m a sucka for ladies that can hoop ugggghh
So he wants a Mountaineer win but he wants a date. Fair enough.
Meanwhile, a totally unsubstantiated theory: John Flowers pays...

Losing to Villanova, Playing Pitt
Things We Learned Saturday
-It took Kevin Jones 16 shots to score 16 points, mostly because he keeps insisting upon shooting a jump shot that just isn’t there. He is a lethal finisher around the rim, but I have no idea why teams don’t let him shoot from the top of the key whenever he gets it there. He can’t make it. (The fact that he also shot an outstanding -4 from the free...

WVU defeats Seton Hall 56-44
Some observations from last night’s game:
- Really Mountaineer fans? Only 9,729 of you at the Coliseum? The collapse at the end is partially on you, between all the empty seats and the breeze that was probably being let in as you all made your ways to your cars way too prematurely. That stuff shouldn’t happen at home—let alone to a Big East opponent that laid into Syracuse in the Carrier Dome....

Big East Slugfest
Though some would tend to debate, it’s the feeling of this blog that the Big East is the toughest and deepest basketball league in the country. Not only does it have top ten teams at the top, but its middle is a who’s who of potential sweet sixteen teams, and its bottom teams are a tough game for anyone, just ask Duke. One could also argue that after a grueling 18 game regular...
