A Weird Reality
This is Bob Huggins fourth year at WVU. He has been, by any measure, wildly successful: a Final Four, a Sweet Sixteen, a Big East Championship, players that have gotten to the pros, big wins, great seasons.
Next year, something changes. It will be his first without any players recruited by John Beilein, WVU’s former coach, a cerebral leader who recruited players capable of fitting into...

WVU vs Louisville - Running diary
It’s 9:57PM. I know absolutely nothing about the game. It’s DVR time.
Pre-game The missus just laughed at the ‘KFC Yum Center.’ I just laughed as I typed that. We are both eight years old.
I’ve seen Laphonso Ellis do some studio work and have liked his stuff. Don’t like the idea of having to listen to him for the next two hours, though. It’s like taking a long car ride with some one. You...

The Wheels Are Coming Off
If you’d told me at the beginning of the season that the Mountaineers would stand at 13-5 a little more than halfway into the season, I would have been overjoyed. This year’s team had rebuilding written all over it. But then the team played hard, never seeming to get too down after losses and never seeming to get too arrogant after wins. It knocked off highly ranked Purdue, avenging...

Dan Jennings Bizarre Behavior and the Immediate...
-We’ve said nothing about the Marshall game, because there’s nothing to be said. Except that it sucked. It mightily, mightily sucked.
-We are celebrating the win over USF…now. Casey Mitchell had an inexplicable double-double, with 13 points and 14 rebounds. John Flowers had 13 pts, 7rbs, 3stls, 3blks, and 2stls. Deniz Kilicli went for 8pts and 8rbs and hoisted up what has to...

Moments in Mountaineer Tweeting (#4)
Truck Bryant’s heart is heavy today, and not entirely because of the loss to Marshall. He tweets:
“Damn it sucks when u mess up on the court but sucks even more when u mess up off the court with someone that love u…”
Yikes.

Beating Purdue and Playing The Mighty Marshall...
-If you wanted to, you could argue that Sunday’s win against Purdue was a better regular season win last season, a year in which the Mountaineers made the Final Four. The reason? Talent. Last year’s team featured Da’Sean Butler, Devin Ebanks, and the criminally underappreciated Wellington Smith. This year’s team, outside of Kevin Jones, features role-players. That the...

Thumping Providence and Playing Purdue
And so it was that the Providence Friars came to Morgantown and got destroyed. Although games like Thursdays are bound to happen from time to time, it is hard to remember a more thorough decimation of an opponent. Let’s briefly discuss the game before looking forward, to tomorrow’s rematch with Purdue:
-John Flowers recorded 24pts, 6rbs, 5asts, 5blks, and 3stls, one of the great...
Why Was I Not Alerted Sooner?
John Flowers! There’s no blog that appreciates him more than this one, which makes me wonder why I wasn’t told of this immediately as it was happening. Still, remarkable.
For the record though, nothing will top this:

Aww Geez, This Guy Again?
Remember Morgantown city politics? I tend to write more about those when West Virginia University isn’t engaged in serious athletic activities. But I would be remiss if I didn’t note that Nelson France has popped up again, this time as a potential candidate for City Council. He would represent Wiles Hill, the neighborhood where I grew up.
I don’t like Nelson France. His initial...

Moments in Mountaineer Tweeting (#3)
John Flowers, celebrating the morning, writes:
RugRats on!!!
The disconnect between Flowers on the court - scrapping, grabbing rebounds, blocking shots into next week - and him off it would be disconcerting if it wasn’t so jovial.

Where We Stand
It had been a grim couple of weeks. A loss to St. Johns. A loss to Marquette. An almost loss to DePaul after giving away a 14 point lead. There was no reason to expect Saturday’s circling of the wagons. But that’s what it was, a team drawing a line in the sand for at least one night.
It’s the model for the rest of the season. This is a team that won’t succeed unless...
"I-I-I-I-I, Just Want To Cellll-e-BRATE!"
I know what you’re saying. Do not revel in the failure of others. Do not celebrate their foibles. Do not jump for joy at their hardships. Do not snicker contentedly at their shortcomings. Do not risk bringing upon yourself whatever it is that has been brought upon them.
However, upon reading this, I want you to say hello to my little dancing friends:

"One cannot be betrayed if one has no people."
Man ought to be properly remembered. Tell me the time he didn’t get it done.
The turn comes quick, far faster than most people are capable of preparing for it. We’re humans after all. We’re not necessarily programmed to understand that we - our work and ourselves - are often disposable in the eyes of others. Everybody knows this feeling. After the end of a long relationship,...

Moments in Mountaineer Tweeting (#2)
As an unabashed John Flowers fan, I feel confident saying his is the team’s most indispensable Twitter account. After today’s disheartening loss to Marquette - in which the team again struggled to achieve simultaneous offensive and defensive consistency, Flowers wrote this:
Damn I feel like playin in traffic on i95 right now
Head up John Flowers. This isn’t gonna get better if...
